Vehicle Restraint Belts and Restraint Carriers

Regulations

The European Standard that applies to lashings is EN-12195-2. Devices for lashing loads on road vehicles, made of synthetic fibers. The standard applies to all European Union countries, many of which are already carrying out control and sanction measures.

This standard specifies the safety requirements relating to the manufacture and use of lashing devices made from technical textiles for multiple uses. As well as test methods for load lashing straps, hazards and composite load lashing devices.

LABEL IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD EN 12195-2

Cargo lashing belts manufactured in accordance with EN12195-2 must have a blue label indicating that they are manufactured in polyester.
Each part of a lashing assembly shall have the blue identification label, which shall contain data that enables its identification, determination of specifications and traceability of its manufacture and distribution.

Before each use, the belt should be inspected to ensure that it is free of defects and that the identification and specification are correct.

A belt without identification (valid blue tag) should never be used.

During the period of use, regular checks should be made for defects or damage. These checks should extend to any fittings or accessories used in conjunction with the belt.

If there is any doubt as to the belt's suitability for use, the belt should be removed from service until it is examined by a competent person.

Instructions

THE FASTENING OF VEHICLES

  1. Attach the first hook to the floor element, so that the strap slides as vertically as possible.
  2. Then tie the belt radially above the wheel, making sure that the control belt is positioned correctly.
  3. Attach the second hook to the floor element in the same manner as the first.
  4. Attach the third hook to the anchor point lying laterally outside the wheel and tighten the strap using the ratchet.

SECURING OF LOADED VEHICLES IN THE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC

  1. One chock in front and one behind on the rear wheel.
  2. Additionally tie this rear wheel by means of a third anchor point.
  3. Diagonally to this wheel place another wedge in front of the respective front wheel.
  4. If a chock cannot be used for technical reasons, a new wheel must be secured with an anchor strap.

SECURING OF LOADED VEHICLES IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF TRAFFIC

  1. One chock in front and one behind on the rear wheel.
  2. Diagonally to this wheel place another wedge in front of and behind the respective front wheel.
  3. Additionally, tie both wheels by means of a third anchor point on each wheel.
  4. If the chock cannot be used for technical reasons, a new wheel must be secured with a tie-down strap.

Three-point belts with a grip sleeve and in combination with chocks must be used to properly secure vehicles in a vehicle carrier.

  • Before loading/unloading, the vehicle carrier must be parked on solid ground.
  • The loading platform must be clear of tie-down belts, chocks, tools, etc.
  • Vehicle carrier covers must be positioned and secured in the proper position to load vehicles without damaging their undersides.
  • The different decks of the truck and trailer must be connected with connecting ramps/bridges.
